How Brooklyn Arrests Work
Brooklyn buys its policing from the county. The City of Brooklyn's Sheriff page explains that the city contracts with the Poweshiek County Sheriff for every law-enforcement need. Residents are told to call the Sheriff directly rather than report incidents to the city. The Sheriff is the first stop for a Brooklyn incident report, booking question, or custody check.
The 2020 Census counted 1,502 residents, per the ISU Extension Poweshiek city table. Population says nothing about arrests. Brooklyn keeps no separate police log. There is no booking feed or mugshot page of its own either. People arrested in Brooklyn are booked at the Poweshiek County Jail in Montezuma. Some matters can still stay out. Citations, releases, outside-agency placements, and protected cases stay out of a county intake publication.
Where Brooklyn Arrests Are Published
Brooklyn publishes no arrest page of its own. Every useful source sits at the county or state level, so begin with a record custodian rather than an aggregator.
| Channel | Purpose | Photo status | Authority |
|---|---|---|---|
| Poweshiek Sheriff | Incident, arrest, jail, and current-custody questions | Policy not published | Official |
| PCSO intake report | Recent county-jail intake snapshot | No photo in observed reports | Media-hosted agency report |
| PCSO call log | Calls, locations, responder agencies, descriptions | No photo in observed log | Media-hosted agency report |
| Iowa VINE | Specific custody check and offered alerts | Not a photo source | Official statewide service |
| The Record | Selected Brooklyn and county news | Story dependent | Editorial source |
Each intake entry lists a name, age, address, hold reason, and booking date. The arresting agency is not shown. A Brooklyn address doesn't mean the arrest happened there. The reverse holds too. Hold reasons may name a charge, a warrant, or sentenced custody, so read them literally.
Find a Brooklyn Arrest Booking
Work from the newest county publication toward direct confirmation. Keep the incident record and the jail record separate throughout.
- Open Arrests Last 24 Hours and compare the PDF’s printed date with each Booking Date. The report can lag by a day.
- Use the Police Blotter for call chronology and responder details. A call entry is not proof of county booking.
- Call the Sheriff at 641-623-5679 for current custody or to identify the right records custodian.
- Try VINELink Custody Check for one person and offered release or transfer alerts. Confirm urgent information by phone.
- Check Iowa Courts Online for a filed case, then use the clerk for documents not available remotely.
A blank result can mean several things. The person may have been cited and released, booked in another county, or entered under different data. A protected record is also possible. No web roster exists. No refresh schedule or archive depth is promised either. The county-wide recent-arrests resource maps the full custody and court routing.
Brooklyn Arrest Intake Fields
The date-coded PCSO Daily News Intake Report is the nearest public snapshot of county bookings. It covers activity after Brooklyn enforcement. It's not city-specific. It lists people tied to other cities, other agencies, warrants, and sentenced holds. The report date can differ from the booking date. The next-day PCSO intake example shows why both dates matter.

This text-only PDF is a publication snapshot, not a live roster or gallery. Bond, court dates, booking numbers, arresting agency, release times, and photographs are all absent. Call the Sheriff when any of those facts matters.
- Booking
- The jail intake process after a person is accepted into custody.
- Hold reason
- The report’s stated basis for custody, which may be a charge, warrant, or sentence.
- Disposition
- The later court result, not the charge printed at booking.
Request Brooklyn Arrest Records
Brooklyn's contract routes ordinary city arrest requests to the Poweshiek County Sheriff's Office. The official county page lists the current address. Brooklyn's own page shows a conflicting one. Rely on 4802 Barnes City Road, Montezuma, IA 50171. You can also mail to PO Box 297. Call ahead and confirm the custodian and delivery method first.
- Give the person’s full name and an approximate arrest or booking date. Add another identifier only when needed to separate similar names.
- Ask for the specific incident report, jail-log entry, booking record, release or transfer status, and court number if maintained.
- Request the booking photograph separately, if it is maintained and releasable. The public intake PDF has no image.
- Ask for electronic copies, an itemized fee estimate, and an expected response date before chargeable work begins.
- Request segregable public portions and a legal citation for anything withheld.

The Sheriff publishes no booking-record form, photo fee schedule, or turnaround promise. Iowa Chapter 22 lets you request records several ways. Responses can still hold exempt material: active investigations, juvenile files, victim data, medical records, sealed or expunged items. Office hours don't guarantee around-the-clock records service.
Brooklyn Arrest Photos and Custody
Photographs happen at booking. The county dispatcher/jailer job description says staff photograph incoming prisoners during intake and maintain the jail log and records. So a booking-photo workflow exists. It doesn't promise a public web image. The daily intake PDFs show no faces. The Sheriff's site states no online publication policy.
If you need a photo for a permitted personal, court, or records purpose, ask which agency created it and holds it now. A Brooklyn arrest booked by the Sheriff keeps both incident and jail records at the county. Another agency's case may point elsewhere. Iowa Code Chapter 22 treats current and prior arrest data as public, with specific exemptions. Still, no Iowa statute requires county mugshot publication. A missing online image proves nothing.
Iowa VINE answers a different question. It can flag custody status and notify you of a release or transfer when a participating record exists. It won't give a court outcome. A blank result needs the Sheriff's confirmation.
Brooklyn Arrest News Sources
The Record serves as the official paper for Poweshiek County and four of its towns. Brooklyn is one of them. The weekly prints public notices rather than a live arrest feed. Its crime coverage appears one issue at a time. Regional TV and radio jump in only when a story gets big. Their reports on Brooklyn arrests come in bursts. A photo used for public safety there is not the same as a booking photo.
Two Grinnell outlets post PCSO intake and call-log files for the whole county. They are Our Grinnell and Grinnell On the Go. Brooklyn activity shows up in those date-coded reports. Treat them as publication copies, since neither outlet holds the original Sheriff records. Uploads follow no set schedule. Nothing is promised on weekends or archiving. A dead link means nothing about the underlying record itself.
Skip the third-party mugshot directories. The Busted Newspaper county page sits stale. Most other big aggregators have no true local section. Results there can be old, incomplete, or tied to another county's custody. Check anything you find against the Sheriff and Iowa Courts Online. For nearby coverage, see Grinnell Recent Arrests and Montezuma Recent Arrests. Those pages follow different agency paths.
