Poweshiek VINELink Custody Coverage
Iowa VINE is the state's free notification and custody-check program. VINELink is its online face. The Attorney General's office describes round-the-clock, confidential access by web, phone, and mobile device. Alerts fire when a custody event occurs.
No Poweshiek County feed audit is published statewide. Pick Iowa, then Poweshiek County, in the live system. Verify both the participation and the record it returns. Iowa's statewide reach doesn't guarantee the county jail always feeds VINE. State custody may route through the Iowa Department of Corrections, which is different from a fresh county booking.
VINELink is not a mugshot gallery. It won't replace the court docket. Its role is custody status and notification.
Search Poweshiek Custody on VINELink
Use the full name, plus an identifier if known. Similar names can return several matches, and a blank result does not mean no arrest occurred.
- Open VINELink search.
- Choose Iowa, then select the custody system or Poweshiek County option shown in the live interface.
- Enter the name or offender or booking identifier available to you.
- Compare the returned location, status, and identifier before opening notification options.
- Call the Poweshiek County Sheriff at 641-623-5679 when the result is urgent, unclear, or absent.
The Poweshiek County arrest-record hub holds the booking and court sources. VINELink tracks custody, nothing more. The VINELink search source shows the plain state and person-search screen.

The official VINELink search page opens with a simple state selection and person search.
Poweshiek VINELink Result Fields
Exact fields vary with the live interface and agency data. Treat each result as a current custody record rather than a full arrest report.
| Possible item | How to use it |
|---|---|
| Name | Compare spelling and other identifiers before selecting a match. |
| Custody status | Shows the status supplied to VINE; confirm urgent changes. |
| Facility or agency | Helps distinguish county jail from Iowa DOC custody. |
| Offender or booking ID | Reduces confusion between people with similar names. |
| Notification options | Available channels and events are set by the live service. |
A release status says nothing about how the case ended. A transfer is not a release. A sentence to Iowa state custody moves the person onto the Iowa DOC source. Federal custody falls outside VINELink's ordinary Iowa path.
Register for Iowa VINE Alerts
Registration attaches to one chosen custody record. Iowa VINE can alert on intake, release, transfer, escape, or death. Telephone and other channels appear on screen.
- Open the correct person’s result and select its notification option.
- Choose the contact channel offered by the live system.
- For telephone notice, create a private PIN and store it safely.
- Complete any confirmation step and review the events selected.
- Update the contact method if the phone number or address changes.
The Attorney General says calls keep coming until a PIN is entered, or for up to 24 hours. Voicemail can complicate that. Register at 1-888-742-8463, and the VINELink registration source shows the notification and PIN stage.

The registration screen is a reminder to pick the right person first and keep the PIN private.
Confirm Poweshiek Custody Changes
Agency data can lag behind a booking, release, or move. The Arrests Last 24 Hours report adds recent intake context. The dated intake PDF is not live either. For a time-sensitive answer, call the Sheriff.
VINELink does not carry the final court disposition. Iowa Courts Online or the Poweshiek Clerk holds that once a case is filed. Ask there for how the case stands.
Three Poweshiek Alert Systems
Poweshiek's channels do different jobs. The Sheriff website gives office and jail contacts, with no public roster or jail app. Smart911 and Alert Iowa handle emergencies. Their text, voice, and email notices cover danger, not custody, while Iowa VINE tracks a named person's changes.
| Channel | Purpose | Not for |
|---|---|---|
| Sheriff | Direct jail and records confirmation | Automated statewide alerts |
| Smart911/Alert Iowa | County emergency messages | Bookings or release tracking |
| Iowa VINE/VINELink | Custody search and event notices | Court outcomes or federal custody |
This split trips people up. Enrolling in Smart911 does not create a VINE alert, and a VINE notice never includes the incident report or booking photo.
Keep VINE Registration Private
Iowa describes its registration as anonymous and confidential. Guard the PIN anyway. Use a contact the registrant controls. Skip sensitive details in public notes or shared messages.
If calls hit voicemail, follow the Iowa steps and confirm how PIN acknowledgment works. A missed notice changes nothing; the holding agency confirms the actual custody event.
- Release
- A change out of the reported custody placement, not a finding of innocence or guilt.
- Transfer
- A move between facilities or custody systems.
- Disposition
- The court’s resolution of the criminal case.
When VINELink Is Not Enough
Federal and immigration custody live elsewhere. The Federal Bureau of Prisons locator covers federal prisoners, not county booking photos. DHS-VINE is a separate immigration-custody product. An empty Iowa result does not mean the person is free or was never arrested.
A very fresh Poweshiek booking starts with the Sheriff. A state-prison commitment points to Iowa DOC. The case outcome belongs to the court docket. Each channel answers one question, so picking the right custody state beats repeating the same name search.
Note: Iowa VINE is the right statewide service to try, but Poweshiek participation must be confirmed in the live system.
No Poweshiek VINELink Result
A blank VINELink result has a few common causes. The name may be misspelled. The booking may be too fresh, or the agency data may lag. Custody held in another system produces the same dead end. Start by rechecking the spelling and identifier. Then select Iowa and the right county or custody system once more. A very recent arrest in Poweshiek County is often fastest to confirm by phone: call the Sheriff and look at the dated intake source. State prison inmates belong to Iowa DOC. Federal and immigration custody each run through separate locators.
Someone released from custody will drop out of the current view. The booking and court records still exist, though. Ask the Sheriff for the dated arrest record, and use the court docket to learn how the case ended. That split keeps present location apart from the historical arrest facts.
Use Poweshiek Alerts Safely
Alerts work best as safety tools. They can help with transport plans, court dates, and staying in contact with someone connected to the person arrested. Treat each notice as a prompt to verify, since delivery is never guaranteed to beat a custody change. Keep the agency phone number close when timing matters.
Never confront someone because of an alert or an old wanted notice. Call 911 if a threat feels immediate. Let law enforcement handle contact.
